The Austrian High Tauern National Park is extraordinarily well preserved. We, as humans, are allowed, as long as we strictly conform to what the Austrians have been doing for thousands of years....walking. This protected region has Austria's highest and most famous mountains and offers countless opportunities for spectacular hikes and other outdoor sports. Photographer Frits Meyst and writer Roel van den Eijnde indulge in a five day hike from hut to hut, climbing the 3667meters to the summit of Mount Grossvenediger, and indulging in the warm hospitality of the mountain hut people.
